I'm not too knowlegable regarding Canadian law but as I see it the police have been given a right to destroy property. However, this doesn't mean that civil suits can't be brought against those departments for everything from lost wages to wrongful destruction of property. Actually, this isn't a very good law. Go ahead crush a guys modified Corvette or Grand National. Then he simply brings suit against the department for dammages.....and when asked to present concrete evidence that the car was modified for racing....oh wait you destroyed the evidence. Only thing left is high circumstatial. A police report saying so. This is one of those, don't contest it laws.
